The 160 local hospitals have started using a monitoring network for bird flu, the Shanghai Health Bureau said yesterday. The bureau trained medical workers on how to prevent and control the disease during the Spring Festival holiday. All the hospitals are required to report the situation every day to the health authority and document the process they use from disinfection to epidemiology research. In addition, a 24-hour hot line - 5228 5500 - was set up to promote the education and health care knowledge among local residents.
