The Shanghai Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau issued a series of regulations yesterday to prevent the spread of bird flu.
The regulations ban any bird-related goods from areas with reports of the disease from entering the city.
Any packages containing bird or other animal goods will be inspected before they can enter the city. If they are found to come from flu-stricken areas, they will be sent back or destroyed.
Other measures include:
гд Any luggage or mail brought into the city from flu-stricken areas must be inspected by the bureau.
гд Birds raised on ships from epidemic-stricken areas will be caged and not allowed to leave the vessel.
гд All vehicles from epidemic-stricken areas and animal goods from anywhere outside the city must be sterilized before entering Shanghai.
On Tuesday, the bureau's Waigaoqiao branch sealed up 20 kilograms of chicken from Thailand found on a ship arriving from Hong Kong.
Shanghai reported a suspected bird flu case in Kangqiao, Nanhui District, last Friday.
