DPRK, S.Korea reach agreement on issues of rail and road links 27/2/2004

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) reached an agreement Thursday with South Korea on a series of issues related to the projects of reconnecting rail and road links between the two sides, Pyongyang's major newspaper Rodong Sinmun reported.

The ninth north-south working talks on reconnecting rail and road links and the fourth north-south working talks on cooperation of marine transportation were held from Feb. 25-26 in Kaesong, in southern DPRK.

At the talk on rail and road links, the two sides discussed and adopted timetables about technical service for equipment repair and servicing, provision and construction of an asphalt complex, provision of equipment and material yet to be delivered for the projects and other matters.

The two sides also agreed to discuss the basic agreement on setting up a truck service office and its operation, as well as providing train service at the fourth meeting of the panel for reconnecting the rail and road links between the north and the south.

During the marine transportation talks, they discussed the date for effectuating the agreement on marine transportation which has already been adopted, and an appendix for its implementation.

The two sides said in a joint press release that they would adopt the appendix at an early date after finalizing it in a way of exchanging documents.

They also agreed to fix the date and venue for the fifth north- south working talks for cooperation in marine transportation after discussing it by means of exchanging documents.
