The Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM) held an emergency meeting Tuesday to analyze Haiti's situation in face of former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide's resignation.
Representatives of the 15 member-countries discussed a joint position on Haiti's future in the Jamaican capital of Kingston, reports reaching here said.
The meeting was initiated by Jamaican Prime Minister and current President of CARICOM Percival J. Patterson after Aristide's resignation and exile was unveiled last Sunday.
Patterson said CARICOM held direct contacts with Aristide Saturday afternoon and "nothing made us think that his resignation was imminent."
The Jamaican prime minister told the press Monday night that inface of Aristide's sudden removal "we have no other choice but to wonder if his resignation was really voluntary."
Aristide told media after his resignation that he had been kidnapped by the US forces to force him out of Haiti.
