Haitian new Prime Minister Gerard Latortue on Wednesday presented appointment letters of his cabinet members, excluding political groups, press releases from the Caribbean nation said.
"There is no representative of political parties but there are members of these associations" in the new government, Latortue declared in the capital Port-au-Prince, where he urged Haitians for "patience" with the actions to be taken by the new government.
Latortue, who was appointed prime minister in early March afterPresident Jean-Bertrand Aristide fled the country amid an armed uprising, told the press that the cabinet's appointment was "an experience of democracy in action."
The cabinet comprises 13 ministers and six secretaries of state.Haiti's main political coalition, the Democratic Convergence, expressed its support for the new government, but regretted its exclusion along with other politicians.
Lawyer and university professor Bernard Gousse was appointed asjustice minister.
The post of the Interior and National Security, the most important ministry, was in the hands of Herard Abraham, a personalfriend of Latortue and commander-in-chief of the army.
Leader of the Democratic Convergence Evans Paul said, "There isconfusion" in Haiti but reiterated their support for Latortue's government. "We must successfully achieve this democratic transition at all costs."
