Israeli troops kill Palestinian child in West Bank 27/3/2004

The Israeli Army shot dead on Saturday a Palestinian six-year-old boy in the northern West Bank refugee camp of Balata, Palestinian sources reported.

They said the Israel Army is carrying out storming campaigns into the camp and the neighboring Nablus city after imposing tight curfew on them.

A Palestinian boy, Khaled Walaweel, was killed and another boy was crushed by an Israeli military jeep in the camp, but any further information about his condition is unknown yet, they added.

The boy was shot in the neck, said a medic who transported the child to hospital, adding he had been brought to the hospital in a critical condition after the clashes in the city's Balata refugee camp.

The boy's uncle said he was in an upstairs room of his home when the boy was hit.

The trouble broke out when the Israeli forces backed by armoured vehicles moved into three houses in the camp and young Palestinians threw stones at their jeeps. The Israelis then fired off live bullets, hitting the six-year-old.

During their operation, the Israeli forces also arrested four Palestinians from Nablus and Bethlehem, the Palestinian sources said.
