Fatah armed wing rejects call for refraining from attacks on Israel 29/3/2004

Al-Aqsa brigades, the military wing of Palestinian mainstream Fatah movement, asserted on Saturday that the only thing for Palestinians to halt the Israeli occupation and regain their rights was to adopt the choice of resistance.

The brigades' position was stated in a leaflet in response to a call made by a number of Palestinian officials and intellectuals to refrain from using violence and carry out attacks against Israel.

About 80 Palestinian intellectuals and officials signed a petition on Thursday and called on not carry out attacks inside Israel in retaliation to the assassination of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) spiritual leader Ahmad Yassin.

Al-Aqsa brigades said in the leaflet that "these people have imposed themselves on the Palestinian people and called for the end of the Intifada (uprising) and halt our resistance against the Zionist enemy without any shame while our blood is constantly shed."

The brigades considered this call as a way of overshadowing Israel's failure in breaking down Palestinians' will to resist, despite the Israeli military continuous raids and closures and the assassination of Yassin.
