China to Research Teflon 15/7/2004

China is to research Teflon coatings amid allegations that DuPont failed to report risks from a chemical used to make Teflon coatings.

China will arrange experts to research Teflon coatings amid allegations that DuPont failed to report risks from a chemical used to make Teflon coatings.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency asserted last week that Dupont failed to report information about PFOA, a synthetic chemical called perflaurooctanoic acid.

Chinese officials say they have already found a method to check whether Teflon coatings contain PFOA and will also arrange top experts to research the risk to human health from the material.

Currently, most Chinese non-stick pan companies are using Teflon coatings made by Dupont.

The Delaware-based DuPont Company contends all products using Teflon are safe for humans and the environment.
