Spain wins men's C1 1,000m title 27/8/2004

22-year-old David Cal of Spain, runner-up in 2003 World Championships, finishing in 3:46.201, snatched the gold in men's C1 1,000m of Athens Olympic canoeing regetta in Athens on Friday.

Veteran Andreas Dittmer of Germany, winner of last two Olympics, completed the course in 3:46.721 and won the silver medal.

Fledging Attila Vajda of Hungary, 21, secured a bronze medal in 3:49.025.
