Beijing sees fewer native migrant workers in 2017: Report
From:ChinaDaily   |  2018-03-19 17:27

BEIJING -- Beijing saw fewer migrant workers from the city's rural areas in 2017, according to a report released by the Survey Office of the National Bureau of Statistics in Beijing.

Native migrant workers in Beijing totalled 724,000 in 2017, 2,000 fewer compared with the previous year, the report showed.

The number had been decreasing for four consecutive years, which the report attributed to the city's development of urbanization.

The average monthly income of these workers reached 3,230 yuan ($510), up 7.7 percent from the previous year, according to the report.

It said more than 80 percent of native migrant workers were engaged in the service sector.

China had more than 286.5 million migrant workers at the end of 2017.
