Resolution supporting Taiwan's WHO participation 'wrong and invalid', mainland spokesman says
From:ChinaDaily  |  2021-10-19 18:54

A Chinese mainland spokesman said Tuesday the resolution passed by the World Medical Association to support Taiwan's participation in the World Health Organization is invalid and violates the one-China principle.

The WMA, a nongovernmental organization, has approved a resolution on Friday supporting Taiwan's participation in the WHO and related mechanism as an observer. The ruling Democratic Progressive Party of Taiwan expressed its thanks.

Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said the Taiwan region must adhere to the one-China principle in its participation in international organizations and activities.

The WMA resolution is "wrong and invalid", and it violates the one-China principle and the WHO's Taiwan-related arrangements, Ma said.

The DPP authority has been using various tactics to draw some organizations in for its independence purposes and create an illusion of international support for the island, he said, adding that "their purpose will not succeed".
