Andrew Leung vows to lead new LegCo to build a better HK
From:ChinaDaily  |  2022-01-04 22:30

Andrew Leung Kwan-yuen, who was reelected president of the Legislative Council on Tuesday, pledged to serve as a coordinator among different political groups and lead the seventh LegCo to kick off a new chapter.

In a media briefing, Leung extended his gratitude to lawmakers who trust and support him, adding that it rendered him an opportunity to contribute to building a better Hong Kong and creating a new landscape for good governance.

The seventh LegCo is the first under the city's electoral improvements, and the legislature is expanded from 70 seats to 90 seats.

With more lawmakers from diversified backgrounds, Leung said he believes that newly elected lawmakers will leverage their own advantages and promote Hong Kong's development in a more constructive way.

Leung said that the new legislature, whose first council meeting is to be held next Wednesday, will redouble efforts to implement the "patriots administering Hong Kong" policy, safeguard national security, monitor and assist the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government's work, especially fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and promoting the city's economic recovery.
