Wisteria to come into full bloom at Shanghai Chen Shan Botanical Garden
By:Zhao Chunyuan  |  From:english.eastday.com  |  2021-04-09 10:41

Recently, visitors to the Shanghai Chen Shan Botanical Garden have gone straight to the North American Sea of Flowers. On approach, they have seen clearly that the purple and white wisteria flowers entwined around the man-made flower tunnel are in full bloom. And with the Chinese wisteria planted in many places in the garden due to be in full bloom this week, the garden will become even more vibrant.

Wisteria is a famous flowering vine in China and is cultivated all over the country. The genus wisteria is divided into three main categories: Chinese wisteria, Japanese wisteria and American wisteria.

Chinese wisteria has a long history of cultivation, with records of cultivation as far back as the Tang Dynasty (618-907).

Wisteria trees with gnarled trunks and purple flowers have been loved by the literati since ancient times.

Wisteria prefers a sunny environment and does not require much soil, but moist, fertile and well-ventilated soil is more conducive to its growth and flowering.

From now until mid-April is the peak flowering period of wisteria. Visitors can enjoy wisteria flowers in the North American botanical area gallery, vine botanical garden, aquatic botanical garden and other areas in Shanghai Chen Shan Botanical Garden.
