A cycling event, magic show, music festival, flower exhibitions and cultural performances will create a tourism feast across the city this spring, providing plenty of options for excursions, Shanghai's tourism authorities said over the weekend.

A variety of flower exhibitions will turn the city into a sea of color, including a lavender festival at the Shanghai International Resort, a tulip festival at the Shanghai Flower Port, a wisteria flower show at the Jiading Wisteria Garden, and a forest flower display atGongqing Forest Park.

Huinan, Datuan and Xinchang towns in the Pudong New Area are perfect places to appreciate pink peach flowers, while the Shanghai International Orchid Exhibition will run between Friday and April 8 at the Chenshan Botanical Garden.

In addition, peonies, roses, azaleas and vanilla flowers will add a splash of color and fragrance when they are in full bloom in districts like Songjiang, Chongming and Qingpu soon, according to the Shanghai Tourism Administration.

Tourists are able to dig out and taste bamboo shoots, a spring delicacy, during a culture festival in Sheshan area in Songjiang between March 30 and April 8. About 100 bamboo shoot dishes will be served.

Other events include an acrobatics and magic festival which will be staged at Shanghai Great World, also known as Dashijie, featuring performances of "Shanghai's intangible cultural inheritors."

Strawberry picking events will be held in Baihe Town in Qingpu and Gangxi Town in Chongming.

An astronomical observation camping festival will start in April in Songjiang, while a cycling carnival allowing tourists to experience Chongming's spring will be held as well.

The Chenshen grass music festival, Yuyuan tea culture festival, and the Jinshan international sand sculpture exhibition are also on the spring activity list.
