After four months of selection process, the results of 2017 Shanghai Craftsmen were unveiled on Tuesday, September 19. A total of 94 workers were conferred the title.

The 94 honorees work in various fields ranging from electricity, steel, shipbuilding, aviation, communications, construction and transportation. In general, they boast a rich industrial know-how and have strong capabilities in innovation. Many of them are CPC members and hold high academic degrees.

With 26 years’ average work experience, the 94 Shanghai Craftsmen range in age from 30 to 63, with an average age of 46, three years younger than last year.

A total of 84 men and 10 women were selected. This year, judges also saw a big rise in the number of qualified frontier workers who devote themselves to daily hands-on work on the production line. What’s also notable is that 8 of the 94 are migrant workers.

Initiated by the Shanghai Federation of Trade Unions in 2016, Shanghai Craftsmen is a project which aims to select 1,000 outstanding workers over ten years in order to set examples to trigger creativity and innovation in the city. Last year, 88 workers were honored the title.
