Jhimpir Wind Power Plant in Pakistan entered operation on June 16, generating 270,000 megawatts of power a year. That is enough to satisfy the needs of half a million families.

Funded by the China Oriental Group Company Ltd, it is the largest wind power project in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, taking 16 months to construct and creating over 800 jobs for locals.

Power shortages have hindered Pakistan's economic growth. In the summer, the gap between supply and demand can be as high as 5,000 megawatts. Wind power plants are much quicker to build than hydropower or thermal power stations. So, wind power becomes an important cooperation field between China and Pakistan.

With an installed capacity of 99 megawatts, the power plant covers an area of 14 square kilometers and operates 66 wind turbines. The bodies of the towers were all built in Pakistan.
