06/11  14:46

Beijing, Nov 6 - Hannah Ryder, Deputy Country Director of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) China Representative Office delivered a speech today at the BRICS Economic Think Tank Forum held in Beijing.

She said that as there is further demand for global reform as well as a shift of the economic clout towards emerging economies, a strong role in the reformation process will fall to these rising powers, especially China. In this context the influence of BRICS countries will be crucial to promote a more balanced and inclusive development agenda while their knowledge and experience will serve as a bridge between the developing and developed world.

“In order to facilitate the understanding of the changing global environment and architecture, UNDP-China office has successfully partnered with China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE), on a global governance initiative started in 2012,” said Hannah Ryder.

As part of the flagship project, the Second Global Governance Forum was held last October 22nd in Beijing. A select group of senior leaders, prominent scholars, and other development stakeholders from 25 different countries convened to continue the discussions on global governance with a special focus on its economic aspects and in particular on sustainable financial for development in the post-2015 context, she added.
