9/9/2004 15:31

Fourteen cities and districts on China's mainland have been chosen as the most favored investment destinations for Taiwan business people, according to an annual survey conducted recently by the Taiwan Electrical and Electric Manufacturers' Association.
The 14 cities and districts are Xiaoshan in Hangzhou, Minhang in Shanghai, Chengdu, Yangzhou, Xuzhou, Jiangyin in Wuxi, Tianjin, Kunshan in Suzhou, Jiaxing, Dalian, Nanchang, Shantou, Jinan and Qingdao.
The survey said that geographical advantage and a good investment environment are the major reasons for Taiwan's business people to invest in these locations.
On top of the list is Xiaoshan, which also ranked first in last year's survey.
By the end of July, Jiaxing had approved 715 projects funded by Taiwan's investors, whose combined investment totaled US$3.77 billion. The investment of 116 projects exceeded US$10 million each.
Since 1999, TEEMA has arranged experts, scholars and research institutions to conduct annual survey on topics such as the investment environment and risks of 65 cities and districts on the mainland.
TEEMA is a major manufacturers' association on Taiwan island. Its investment covers more than 20 sectors including information, telecommunication, photo-electricity and household electric appliance.
