Officials from Shanghai Greenery Administrative Bureau are warning residents not to introduce, raise or sell crocodiles without a license from the wildlife authority. Violators face penalties from confiscation of the animals to jail sentences.

The warning came after the discovery of a meter-long crocodile by a school boy at Minhang District's Xincheng Primary School last month.
