Shanghai Daily news

During the heavy snow, Shanghai Mobile sent out five mobile communication towers to compensate for call demand.

The vehicles are often sent to regions with a surging demand of mobile communications, the city's No. 1 mobile operator said yesterday.

Through cooperation with the municipal government, water and power supply and transportation bureaus, Shanghai Mobile has sent out five million short message services on snow information to keep the public informed.

Nationally, 16,000 mobile base stations were put to use as power cuts caused by the snow happened in Guizhou, Jiangsu, Hunan and Anhui provinces.

China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom are using various methods to restart the stations, such as through back-up power systems, according to the Ministry of Information Industry.
