Residents donate money for the tsunami-hit regions of Southeast Asia in Xujiahui yesterday.  The city's civil affair authorities have established coordinating offices for public donations to the relief efforts.

Cheng Jinhu, a migrant worker from Anhui Province, took three buses to reach the Shanghai Red Cross on Sunday.
Why? He wanted to donate his monthly salary of 1,000 yuan (US$120) to the survivors of the Indian Ocean earthquake and subsequent tsunamis.
"In 1991 we survived a flood because of the generosity of others," said the 41-year-old. "Now it's time for us to repay their kindness."
Hundreds of others have spent time over the holiday to donate money, said the official with the Red Cross. Old men, unemployed women, primary school students and others all came to give.
"I'm bearing not only a son, but also a loving heart for him," said a pregnant woman who donated 2,000 yuan.
Since December 30 when the local Red Cross began accepting donations, more than 600,000 yuan has been collected. Only cash donations are accepted.
