Chinese relief goods arrive in Male

A cargo plane carrying Chinese government's relief goods amounting to 7.5 million RMB (about 910,000 US dollars) arrived here Wednesday evening.

The relief goods include four sets of 26KW diesel generators, 280 sets of 2KW gasoline generators, 950 sets of 1 KW gasoline generators.

The goods also include 6,000 packages of instant noodle, 6,400 packages of biscuit and 9,600 bottles of mineral water.

The relief goods came after the visit of a Chinese delegation headed by Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei.

The tsunami which hit the islands country on Dec. 26 killed 82 people and displaced more than 20,000 while 26 people are still missing.

The Maldivian government placed the property loss to at least 1.3 billion US dollars, which is twice the country's annual gross domestic product.
