China provides Kenya with disaster relief donation
14/1/2005 9:14

China has provided the Kenyan government with a donation of 100,000 US dollars in support of its disaster relief efforts.

Guo Chongli, China's ambassador to Kenya, on Thursday handed over the donation to Kenyan Minister of State for Special Programs Njenga Karume in Nairobi.

The donation "indicates the care and friendship that Chinese people cherish toward the Kenyan people. I'm happy to announce that apart from the donation in cash, the Chinese government has decided to donate some relief goods to Kenya in the nearest future," Guo said.

Karume thanked the Chinese government for the generous donation, saying that China's assistance in various projects is highly appreciated by the Kenyan government and people.

Kenya was affected recently by the tsunami disaster in which one Kenyan was killed, over 200 fishing boats were damaged and more than 12,000 lost their jobs along Kenya's coastline. And since July last year, some parts of the east African country have been suffering from drought.
