13/5/2004 15:54

Fewer individuals in Shanghai buy automobiles than in Beijing and Guangzhou, China's two other key economies, but they prefer to buy higher-end vehicles, today's Jiefang Daily said.
About 4 percent of the people in the East China city buy private cars, lower than Guangzhou's 5 percent and Beijing's 11 percent, the report said, citing an AC Nielsen survey.
But a Shanghainese will spend 221,180 yuan for a sedan (US$16,745), while Guangzhounese pay an average of 193,530 yuan and Beijingers only 138,720 yuan, the survey indicates.
