Prices of the Volkswagon Polo in Shanghai have slumped to a record lows nationwide as the economy car's only local dealer has begun to cut prices this month. The sharp cuts will bring fresh fire to the already over-heated compact auto market, today's Youth Daily reported.
Shanghai Shenyin Auto Sales Co Ltd has dropped the price of the standard version of the 1.4-litre Polo to 89,600 yuan and that of a 1.6-litre model to 104,800 yuan, both 120,000 yuan lower than the regular market prices.
The price cuts involve nearly 3,000 cars, and covers all the popular Polo models.
Besides price cuts, Shenyin will provide discounts in other ways, such as auto loan subsidies, to lower the cost of a car purchase.
Polo is an economy vehicle unveiled two years ago by Shanghai Volkswagen Auto Co Ltd, a 50-50 joint venture between Germany's Volkswagen AG and Shanghai Automobile Industry Corp.
Shenyin has become the only dealer for the 2003 edition of Polo in Shanghai area and its Beijing branch has become the only dealer for the same vehicles in the North China area.
In the first half-year, Shenyin has also become the only regional retailer of Gol, Shanghai VW's fashion sedan series, and the only nationwide retailer of Santana, Shanghai VW's sedan series.
