Sony (China) Ltd announced yesterday plans to launch a globally
innovative displaying technology - WEGA Engine - in China, with 11 TV products
adopting the technology to be offered on the Chinese market. WEGA Engine,
dubbed as the 'Heart of the TV', offers an important platform for
high-definition picture quality through digitalized procession on both stimulant
and digital image signals, said Sun Yuehua, spokesman with household display
department of Sony (China) Ltd. It is a technological innovation for Sony
which can be widely used in Cathode-ray tube (CRT), rear-projection, Plasma and
liquid crystal, or LCD TV models, Sun said. "Sony is making tremendous
efforts to bring the latest products to the Chinese market, and I believe our
innovative technologies will provide more entertainment for Chinese consumers
and lead the whole TV sector into the digital era," said Kawasaki, President
with the company. The 11 TV models, covering CRT, rear-projection, LCD and
Plama TVs, will be successively offered on the Chinese market this year or early
next year, mainly with a 16:9 wide-screen. Compared with 4:3 screen, 16:9
wide-screen is more comfortable for people's eyes, especially for watching DVDs,
said an industry analyst. Sony has been keen on offering innovative
technologies over the past several years to improve picture quality and image
precision, such as offering Trinitron CRT TV in 1998 and the so-called 'Super
Fine Pitch Trinitron' technology last year, improving image precision by 200
percent.
