Maglev train trips added
28/1/2003 14:59

The operators of Shanghai's magnetic levitation train will add 50 trips during the Spring Festival to meet rising demand, city's transport officials said.

Ten trips will be added from January 28 to 30 and from February 8 to 9.

Since trial operations started in January, the train's schedule has been restricted to weekends and holidays.

Travelers can buy tickets at Longyang Road Station (No. 2100 Longyang Road) or at the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center (No. 100 Renmin Avenue). They can also fax 28907181 to book tickets.

A trip on the Maglev is 150 yuan (US$18), with VIP seats going for 300 yuan.

Despite the high prices, ticket sales are satisfactory, according to local transport officials.

Tickets for January sold out 10 days after the start of trial operation, they said.

The Maglev train, jointly developed by Chinese and German engineers, connects the Pudong International Airport in the east of the city and Zhangjiang, which links to downtown Shanghai by Metro line 2.
