Argentine coach of the soccer national team Diego Maradona threatened
yesterday to resign due to the refusal of the Argentine Soccer Association (AFA)
president Julio Grondona over Oscar Ruggeri as Maradona's assistance.
Maradona was angry with Grondona's posture, despite AFA technical secretary
Carlos Bilardo tried to clear the version of a premature resignation.
"I think Maradona will not resign," Bilardo told TV channel C5N.
Grondona refused to accept Ruggeri as collaborator to Maradona because the
personal ties between them are broken.
Maradona and Ruggeri were companions at the Argentine national team when it
won World Cup Mexico 1986, as well as during Italy 1990 when the team got the
second place.
Maradona was officially appointed as coach of the national team on November
4.
