18/9/2008 18:05

Myanmar wushu team will compete in the forthcoming Fourth World Sanshou Cup tournament in Harbin, China, state-run newspaper The Mirror reported today.
The four-member Myanmar wushu team, which left for China on Tuesday, included two sanshou (Chinese kickboxing) players -- Saw Kyaw Soe Moe and Naw Mar Tun. Saw Kyaw Soe Moe will appear in men's 52kg and Naw Mar Tun in women's 48kg in the three-day world sanshou competition, the paper said.
Only the sanshou athletes who have qualified in the Ninth World Wushu competition are allowed to take part in the Fourth World Sanahou Cup tournament slated on Sept. 19-21, it added.
One Myanmar wushu athlete competed in the Third World Sanshou Cup tournament and pocketed a bronze medal.
Myanmar hosted the 6th Asian Wushu Championship in November 2004, attracting more than 500 athletes, coaches and officials from 25 countries and regions. Myanmar stood third after China and Vietnam with 5 golds, 8 silvers and 9 bronzes in the competition.
Meanwhile, Myanmar grabbed seven medals -- one gold, two silver and four bronze, in the 24th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand in December 2007, of which two silver and two bronze medals got from the sanshou event.
