The US-led Coalition forces eliminated 10 armed militants and detained
four suspected militants during operations to thwart the Taliban and Haqqani
terrorist networks in eastern Afghanistan yesterday, said a Coalition statement
released in Kabul today. Coalition forces in the operation targeting a senior
Taliban commander in the Zormat district of Paktiya province engaged and killed
five militants while searching the militant hideout, the statement
said. During another operation in Sabori district of Paktika province,
Coalition forces locked the aim at a Haqqani sub-commander who is responsible
for planning and conducting attacks against Coalition forces in the region, it
said. "The force engaged the militants with small-arms fire killing five
militants and a search of the building revealed multiple weapons," it
said. Earlier, Coalition forces killed six armed militants and detained 12
suspected militants during operations on Monday to disrupt the Hizb-e-Islami
Gulbuddin, or HIG, and Haqqani networks in the eastern region. Spiraling
conflicts and Taliban-linked insurgency have claimed over 5,000 people, mostly
militants, so far this year in strife- torn Afghanistan as Taliban insurgents
and other anti-government militants have vowed to intensify assaults against
interests of Afghan government and international troops before the coming
winter.
