【编者按】今年是中美建交40周年。岁月无声，光影留痕。7月3日，《跨越太平洋的交流与合作——上海纪念中美建交40周年》图片展在上海市档案馆（外滩馆）正式开幕。300余幅精心甄选的照片，记录了上海与美国各地方的交流合作进程。从这天起，我们挑选部分展出的档案照片，为大家讲述照片背后的故事。让我们一起重温过去，立足现在，展望未来。

　　谢希德，著名的物理学家、教育家。1947年赴美国史密斯女子文理学院留学；1949年获得硕士学位后转入麻省理工学院专攻理论物理；1951年获得博士学位后回国。1983年1月出任复旦大学校长，是新中国高校第一位女校长。

　　谢希德还是一位享有盛誉的社会活动家。成立于1985年的复旦大学美国研究中心也与她密不可分。美研中心是我国最早建立的专门从事美国研究的主要机构之一，现为教育部人文社会科学重点研究基地。

　　Xie Xide, a renowned physicist and educator. She went to study at Smith College in the United States in 1947. After earning her master’s degree, she entered MIT, majoring in theoretical physics. She returned to China after receiving her Ph.D. degree in 1951. She became president of Fudan University in January, 1983, the first female university president in the People’s Republic of China.

　　She was also a renowned public figure. She was closely associated with the Fudan University Center for American Studies. Established in 1985, the Center for American Studies isone of the earliest major institutions for American studies in China and is designated by the Ministry of Education of China as one of the key research institutes of the humanities and social sciences in China.

1986年5月，美国曼荷莲学院授予复旦大学校长谢希德名誉科学博士学位。谢希德是当时中国唯一的一位大学女校长，著名的物理学家，早年曾留学美国。图为谢希德校长获得名誉博士学位后接受美国老朋友的祝贺。

2013年5月，“对话佐利克”活动在复旦大学美国研究中心举行。复旦大学国际问题研究院常务副院长、美国研究中心主任吴心伯教授和哈佛大学肯尼迪政府学院贝尔法科学与国际事务中心高级研究员罗伯特·佐利克博士就中美关系进行对话。
