【编者按】今年是中美建交40周年。岁月无声，光影留痕。7月3日，《跨越太平洋的交流与合作——上海纪念中美建交40周年》图片展在上海市档案馆（外滩馆）正式开幕。300余幅精心甄选的照片，记录了上海与美国各地方的交流合作进程。从这天起，我们挑选部分展出的档案照片，为大家讲述照片背后的故事。让我们一起重温过去，立足现在，展望未来。

　　图片显示的是2015年2月，卡特总统当政时的财政部长、已经89岁高龄的迈克尔·布卢门撒尔，来到上海犹太难民纪念馆，回忆1939年在上海的岁月，他指着当时的“维也纳咖啡馆”资料说：“我认识的，经常去。”

　　布卢门撒尔1939年逃离欧洲来到上海时还是一个少年，曾随父母在虹口犹太难民区居住过8年。后来又于1979年、1994年多次重返上海。他寻访了舟山路59号——他青少年时代的旧居。在那里，布卢门撒尔讲述了半个世纪之前的故事。他说：“在犹太民族陷于绝境，极需帮助的时候，上海成了犹太人的避难地和天堂。上海和虹口在犹太人的历史中永远占有一席之地。”

　　This picture shows that in February, 2015, Michael Blumenthal, 89, who had been secretary of the treasury in the Carter Administration, came to visit Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum. He recalled his days in Shanghai as a Jewish refugee in 1939, and pointed to the photo of “Vienna Café” and said, “I recognize this place. I often went there.”

　　Michael Blumenthal was a young boy when he fled Europe and came to Shanghai in 1939. He lived with his parents in the refugee quarters in Hongkou for eight years. He returned to Shanghai several times later in 1979 and 1994. He found and visited his former residence at 59 Zhoushan Road, where he had lived as a young boy. It is here that he told of his story about his life half a century ago. He said that when the Jewish people were at an impasse and in dire need of help, Shanghai became their sanctuary and paradise. Shanghai and Hongkou are an eternal part of the Jewish history.
