“One Ton Project” creates new crossover arena for fashion and Art

One Ton Project, an exhibition themed on sustainable life opened at the Shanghai Hengfu Art Center on October 9, 2019, and was the first public event since the refurbishment was completed. This Spanish-style building, built in 1929, was located at No.178 South Urumqi road, the southern end of Hengfu historical and cultural preservation zone of the Xuhui District and was Xia Yan's former residence.

 

Aside from the exhibition, the One Ton Project is the first evaluation program for environmental protection and art & fashion industry and creates a new model of claiming industrial waste and turning them into art works and designed works. The program has invited such stakeholders as manufacturers, scholars, artists from home and abroad, independent designers, environmental pioneers,and media to undertake relevant tasks and participate in this sustainable program to show their support for a green planet. The program is comprised of a forum on sustainable life trends, release of sustainable technologies as well as a sustainable life and fashion exhibition.  At the opening ceremony, guests inlcuding manufacturers, scholars, artists shared their stories and involvement with this project and their views on sustainable life.

 

The One Ton Project also partners with China Textile Information Center to showcase an artwork named Entangled Meaning, at the 2019 National Textile Products Development Base Member’s Day forum to be held on October 10, 2019. The artwork was created in cooperation with artist Wang Weiyu using such eco-friendly yarns.

The project developed jointly with WGSN, a professional international trends forecasting organization, a colorful environmental protection installment named 25th hour to successfully complete the challenge of 25 kilograms garbage sorting in 24 hours.

French brand 1=x has combined the alginate fibers fabrics made by Skytex Fashion and 3D transparent resin printing technology to create garments.

Called on by the One Ton Project, garment brand Shepherd has also launched Hologarment, a software tool combining garment design and virtual proofing with the help of holographic display. This software is expected to reduce several hundred kilograms of fabric scraps from Pattern making.

The sustainable life exhibition has invited artists Wu Daijie, Zhou Linwei and Zhuxi, who have been trying to adopt artistic approaches to turn scraps and discarded materials into something with cultural value and thus make them revitalized and useful again.

This exhibition will last until October 20.
