At 00:30 today, a car accident happened on Shanghai Zhonghuan Line (Inner Circle) between Zhenrong Road and Wanrong Road Ramp. A truck loaded with pre-cast pipes rolled aside and caused the damage of main deck of the elevated road. The accident didn’t cause any casualty, but part of the Zhonghuan Line was blocked. At morning rush hour today, the traffic of north and northwest part of Shanghai was severely affected. Shanghai Road Council said, it would take two weeks for part of Zhonghuan Line Inner Circle (from Gulang Road off-ramp to Hutai Zhi Road on-ramp) to restore access.

The vehicle that caused accident was a truck loaded with over 10-meters-long pre-cast cement pipes from Shanghai Jianjing Logistics Co. Ltd. The over loaded truck drove onto the elevated road against the prohibition. It turned over when driving on Zhonghuan Line (Inner Circle) between Zhenrong Road and Wanrong Road Ramp and caused the main deck of the elevated road to tilt. The biggest gap between the broken parts was 40 cm.
The spot is now still in a mess. The fallen pre-cast pipes are hanging on the elevated road and broken stones are scattered everywhere.

It was reported no casualties. After the accident, Shanghai Police Department and Shanghai Road Council rushed to the spot. The driver has been controlled by police and the police ruled out possibilities of drunk driving and drug driving.

Related person from Shanghai Road Council said the weight of the truck was over 100 tons and Zhonghuan Line was a city express highway which only allowed small and medium sized vehicles to pass.

The accident caused severe affection on traffic in the north and northwest part of Shanghai, especially Jing’an, Baoshan, Putuo districts. This morning, the crowd rushing into Subway Line 7 also abruptly surged. At Xingzhi Road and Dahua San Road stations, the trains tried twice to close the doors.

Shanghai Road Council said, it would take two weeks for part of Zhonghuan Line Inner Circle (from Gulang Road off-ramp to Hutai Zhi Road on-ramp) to restore access. The traffic police department reminded the public that recently nearby citizens were better to travel by public transportation.
