Shanghai is revamping its social credit system. On December 11, the first day of the city’s Honesty Week, it launched an updated version of the mobile app “Honesty Shanghai.”

Since it was introduced last year, the app has been improving and undergone three updates. Compared with the 2.0 version, the 3.0 version has introduced the feature of checking the social credit scores of key industries and groups, thus widening the scope of its credit service.

The app draws on data collected from the government to determine a business or citizen’s public credit score. There are more than 100,000 items of information of up to 23 different kinds of organizations, showing how trustworthy the organizations are. Key industries and groups include lawyers, tourism, NGOs, private schools, property management, real estate industry and so on.

Residents who use the app can also get other benefits. As it rates an individual’s public credit score, users with a good score are allowed to collect rewards, like discounted airline tickets and shopping coupons, which can be used in more than 40  cooperative businesses.

The 2017 Honesty Week will conclude with a credit excellence award ceremony on December 18. During the event, around 20 activities will be held in celebration of credibility.
