Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal embraced Queen Mary 2, the world’s largest luxury cruise ship, on February 22. More than 2,400 inbound passengers were stunned by the amazing welcoming ceremony in the terminal hall.

This was comprised of not only traditional cultural performances like Dragon and Lion dances, as well as opera, but also some intangible cultural heritage exhibitions including paper cutting, Chinese knots and sugar painting.

Jerrilynn, a passenger from New York, was particularly interested in these traditional Chinese arts. Curiously watching Chinese artists cutting paper, she said,"This time I will spend two days in Shanghai. This is my first time to come to China. I have made a shopping plan for this trip. I want to go to Nanjing Road to buy some Chinese clothing and handbags."

According to Wang Younong, Chairman of the Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal Development Company, the Queen Mary 2 has berthed at the Wusongkou terminal 6 times since 2010. This year’s welcoming ceremony is the most grand and is more culture-oriented. For foreign tourists, the current 15-day visa-free policy has brought them great convenience. Moreover, the nation’s first duty-free store is scheduled to be built in the port this year, which will bring inbound tourists a better shopping experience in Shanghai.

Departing from Hong Kong, the ship berthed at Wusongkou terminal as its first stop before setting sail for Tianjin and other ports in Japan and South Korea.
