Currently a professor of violin at Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Yu Lina made her debut as a violinist back in 1959 when she premiered Butterfly Lovers’ Violin Concerto at the age of 18, introducing the exotic Western instrument to many Chinese people. She is also a member of the first women’s string quartet in China, which won a prize at the International Robert Schumann Competition in 1960. While performing abroad, she has been presenting Chinese music to the world. Over the past five decades, as a distinguished pedagogue, she has motivated generations of Chinese people to study violin and occupy influential positions throughout the music world.
