2018-10-17 15:03:20

Cabot, headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, is the world’s leading company specializing in specialty chemicals and performance materials. The company has been a leader in rubber and specialty carbon black, fumed silicaandmasterbatch.

The company entered China as early as 1980, and becameone ofthe first foreign-invested enterprises to invest in China after the reform and opening-up. Moreover, as the one of the first foreign-funded chemical enterprises to settle in Shanghai after the reform and opening-up, Cabot began to work on improving energy efficiency through technological innovation as early as 1988. Thanks to Zhu Rongji, the former Chinese premier and then mayor of Shanghai, Cabot and its Shanghai partner established a leading carbon black production plant in China at that time, using tail gas to produce coal gas, which improved energy efficiency.

Starting from Shanghai, Cabot’s business has gradually extended to Jiangxi, Tianjin and Hebei. In 2017, it began setting up a fumed silica plant in Wuhai, Inner Mongolia, becoming one of the few foreign-funded companies to invest in the development of western regions of China.

Today, China accounts for nearly 20percentof Cabot’s global business. The company is now writing a new chapter by actively participating in the Belt and Road Initiative.
