China's 3G Program
3G (third-generation technology) refers to mobile phone standards designed for high-speed multimedia data. Among the 3G standards are China-developed    TD-SCDMA, and foreign-developed technologies such as WCDMA and CDMA 2000.

Authorities said China will take various measures to ensure the steady launching of the 3G project in the country this year. With 455 million mobile phone users, China is expected to launch 3G licenses this year and telecom equipment makers all hope to grab more market share in the multi-billion-dollar market. It is expected that the total value of telecommunication service on the Chinese mainland would amount to 1.87 trillion yuan (US$240 billion) this year, a year-on-year growth of 23 percent.
