Shanghai Railway Museum is open to public on the occasion of the 55 anniversary of Shanghai Railway Bureau in 2004. The museum is built in accordance with the model of Shanghai Railway Station (the old North Station) which was completed in 1909 in the British classical architectural style. Now Shanghai Railway Museum is one of the popular science education bases in the city.

Based on the historical materials and definite objects, the museum is demonstrating the development of the railway in Shanghai and East China during the past 100 years.

There are six categories of exhibition in the museum with 50-plus programs and about 1000 items including precious old equipment and historical photographs. Particularly, there are also some interactive projects integrating interest and knowledge.
