The owner of this building is the woman who is one of the greatest females in the 20th century in China, Sun Yat-sen's wife, Madam Soong Chingling. She and her sisters and brothers all grew up to be the outstanding figures of their times. The Soong family also became one of the "Four Big Families" of the period in the Republic of China. In the Spring of 1949, she moved here and lived until she passed away in 1981. Although she was transferred to work in Beijing later, she would return to live some time here. In her own words, she went to Beijing for work and return home in Shanghai. As an ivory garden house, there is green lawn in front of the house, surrounded by tens of verdant camphor trees. Here, she used to meet with Chinese former leaders as Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai as well as several foreign heads.
