The native place of Emperor Huangdi is the sacred place where Emperor Huangdi, the ancestor of the Chinese nation was born and his capital founded, hence the root of the Chinese all over the world. It is located at the Xuanyuan Hill in the northern part of the Xinzheng City proper, 38 kilometers south of the Zhengzhou urban area.
According to the historical records, Huangdi was named after his birthplace Xuanyuan. He was extraordinarily clever in his childhood and remarkably able in his adulthood. He led his tribe successfully in defeating and blending his brother Yandi's tribe, wiping out Chiyou, and for the first time realized the unification of China. Then he founded his capital in Youxiong, namely today's Xinzheng.
The native place was first built in the Han Dynasty, and renovated in the following dynasties. The existing structures include Ancestor-Worshiping Square, Millennium Dragon Gateway, Millennium Ancestor-Worshiping Monument, Main Entrance, Main Hall, east and west side buildings, Xuanyuan Hill, etc. Every lunar year around March 3 (the birthdate of Huangdi), grand activities are held here to pay respect to the great national forefather, which have been attracting more and more Chinese descendants from both at home and abroad.
