Gorgeous Yangzhou, an overseas social media platform of Yangzhou city in East China's Jiangsu province, was launched on Jan 6 as a key part of the city's international communication efforts.

The newly-opened platform upgrades Yangzhou's international communication portals, which were created by the Foreign Affairs Office of Yangzhou Municipal Government, the Yangzhou Tourism Marketing Center and chinadaily.com.cn in September 2020 to tell Yangzhou's stories to the world.

Wang Hao, deputy editor-in-chief of China Daily, said at the launch ceremony that China Daily will enhance cooperation with Yangzhou in international communication.

Wang added that the newspaper will help improve the city's international profile by promoting its three calling cards: City of World Canals, Culture City of East Asia, and UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.

Yangzhou's international communication portals were the first of their kind in Jiangsu province that are initiated by foreign affairs office, and were selected as one of Jiangsu's key projects in 2021 to help promote Chinese culture to the world.
