Liu Jiang was born in Wanxian, Sichuan (now Wanzhou District of Chongqing) in 1926. He is currently a professor at the China Academy of Art and the executive director of Xiling Seal Engraver's Society.

He is a renowned seal engraver and calligraphy educator both at home and abroad. His son Liu Dan has also developed a keen interest in seal carving and calligraphy.

On September 25, 2020, Liu Jiang Art Museum was officially opened to the public. By exhibiting excellent calligraphy and seal cutting works of Liu Jiang and other artists, it is promoting and spreading traditional Chinese culture.
