Bear claw cafe is more than a gimmick
By:Zheng Qian  |  From:english.eastday.com   |  2020-12-04 15:25

A windowless take-out cafe that serves coffee through a hole in the outer-facing wall, with the coffee being passed to customers by a barista wearing a bear’s claw prop has gone viral on social media within 2 weeks of its opening.

Located on Yongkang Road in Shanghai, the cafe has been receiving long queues every day. After scanning a QR code hanging out of the hole, customers can place an order to choose from standard lattes and americanos, all for 20 RMB. Then the take-away cup will be delivered by the hairy-handed barista.

At first, customers were solely attracted by the novelty of the store and many took selfies with the fuzzy bear claw. However, after learning that the store was opened by a disabled man who had won the first prize in a coffee brewing program in the 6th China national vocational skill competition for persons with disabilities, and that the bear claw prop enabled two hearing-impaired workers to interact with customers, more and more people have been touched and have flocked to buy a cup of coffee to allow the store to blossom.

To show solidarity with their community disabled customers can get their cup of coffee for free.
