The hand which held the gun now makes flowers. 93-year-old Wang Fuming is a retired veteran who has guarded the border for decades.

Though he has been retired for many years, he still does not want to be idle. Wang began to make stocking flowers after he picked up the skill in 2003. 18 years have now passed, during which he has made 6,000 flowers with his deft hands for kind-hearted young people, medical staff and cleaners and janitors in the residential areas.

Wang has therefore been nicknamed “Flower Grandpa”. “Everyone likes the flowers I make. Their encouragement makes me very happy,” he said.

A video about the veteran online also won many people’s respect. Some of the comments said: “Today’s peace is hard won. Though he is over 90 years old, he is still our hero.” “It is good for him to have a hobby.” “So kind of him.”
