A romance movie titled “B for Busy” which is set in Shanghai has caused a sensation on the Internet, not only because of its fresh plotlines but also thanks to its Shanghai flavor.

Available in theaters since December 24, it is said to be a film for those middle-aged people who have a decent life but are faced with a relationship crisis, rather than a movie for young couples.

“B for Busy” presents the story of Laobai (Mr. B), a fine arts teacher who has been divorced for several years, and his relationship with three women. It explores love, relationships and friendships from the perspective of women, which distinguishes it from other romance movies.

All the actors and actresses in the movie speak Shanghai dialect. They also show the audience what life is like in Shanghai

When you are watching the stream-of-life movie, you will follow them through the alleys, coffee shops and shoemaker’s shops in the western part of downtown Shanghai. You will pass the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center, the grocery market on Wuzhong Road, the western-style houses on Wuyuan Road, and beautiful streets dotted with fallen leaves.

Together with the middle-aged people in the film, you will seem to be have a day in Shanghai: watching a drama, sipping a cup of coffee, visiting an exhibition, or just having a homemade dinner with friends and chatting randomly with them at home.

“Many movies emphasize the sense of industry and professionalism, but in fact, the sense of life is very important.” As the film’s executive producer and main actor Xu Zheng puts it, “B for Busy” tells a romance story with Shanghai flavor in Shanghai dialect.
