Suburban parks opened flower exhibitions,night markets, Cheongsam shows, garden concerts, and dinosaur fossil displays yesterday as part of the ongoing 2020 Shanghai Tourism Festival.

At Pujiang Countryside Park in Minhang District, various haipai (Shanghai-style) cultural activities such as a Cheongsam show, traditional Shanghai food tasting, culture and innovation bazaar and night market are being stageduntil October 6.

A magnificent flower display covering nearly 20,000 square meters in pink, blue, red and white presents a dreamlike view with a flower castle as the backdrop. The autumn flower exhibition at the garden will run through to November 22.

“Sunflowers and a lavender field are also presented as we want to display the co-existence of humans and nature,” said Lu Miao, designer of the show.

“Activities such as the Cheongsam show and night market will enable residents and tourists to experience authentic haipai culture,” she added.

A dinosaur fossil exhibition featuring 10 complete dinosaur fossils and more than 50 dinosaur fossil parts is also being held at the park.

The exhibition is jointly presented withLufeng County in Yunnan Province, home to many dinosaur fossils.

A romantic garden concert, jazz band performance and fashion show are also among the offerings of the park.

Changxing Island Countryside Park will host an industrial and ecological tourism, culture and art festival between September 25 and mid-October, while Jiabei Countryside Park will be the venue for a straw culture festival. “We will host more than 20 activities such as a light night market, and show the harmonious development of industry and ecology,” said Cui Yufeng with Changxing Island Countryside Park.
