On June 14th, British Consulate General in Shanghai held the World’s biggest English Afternoon Tea Party to celebrate the official birthday of Queen Elizabeth II. Totally 735 people attended took tea together and the party created a new Guinness World Record.
Yesterday, 750 people attended an English afternoon tea party on the lawn of InterContinental Shanghai Ruijin Hotel at 17:20. Except the substandard 15 people, finally 735 people finished the complete course of English cream afternoon tea, which created a new Guinness World Record. The former record was created in England at September last year with the total number of 691 people.
At the spot, students from Wellington College International Shanghai performed drama “Alice in Wonderland”. There were also Huangmei opera version of Shakespeare’s drama “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and performance of a robot team. English brands like the most popular fashion department store House of Fraser and toy retail Hamleys was also displayed.
Cream afternoon tea is Queen Elizabeth II’s favorite, which includes English black tea, scone, cream and jam. The genuine way of taking English afternoon tea is to break the scone into two halves and spread cream and jam on each half.
Queen Elizabeth II has two birthdays. One is her born day on April 21st, 1926. The other is the official birthday on the first Saturday of June.
