Shanghai Tower launches trial run of Summit 632
By:Wu Qiong  |  From:english.eastday.com  |  2017-08-30 17:18

A space between the 125th and 126th floors of the 632-meter-tall Shanghai Tower, named Summit 632, is now open to the public, the Shanghai Tower announced on August 28.

Summit 632 started its trial operation on Monday. People who want to have a look at the space can book a ticket and spend a memorable time near the top of the building which towers above the city of Shanghai.

At Summit 632, people will see a tuned mass damper on display for the first time. The damper, weighing 1,000 tons, claims to be the world’s first tuned mass damper with an eddy current damping system and is designed to prevent the Shanghai Tower from swaying in heavy winds. With the help of multimedia technology, people can catch a glimpse of the damper in action and have a better understanding of its principles.

Above the damper there is a statue which resembles an eye. When the weather is fine, sunlight will reflect on the statue, giving a touch of mystery to the installation.

During their visit, people can also enjoy the music composed by Grammy-winning musician Simon Franglen.

Currently China’s tallest building (and the 2nd tallest in the world), the Shanghai Tower boasts 127 floors above the ground and five floors below ground level. The majestic high-rise is home to a variety of office spaces, a hotel, a swimming pool, an observation deck, a museum, an art gallery, shops, food and beverage venues, as well as conference and exhibition spaces.
